The Dark Side…..

Now…….Wake up to Reality!!!!

(Warning….this page will depress you)

While this website is filled with pictures of adorable Scotty puppies, beautiful finished Champions and happy dogs and
people, there is a dark side of dog ownership that cannot be ignored any longer.

The unsuspecting public, through lack of knowledge, is perpetuating the cruel and inhumane treatment of dogs every
time they purchase puppies at pet shops, through newspaper/magazine ads or through the internet from puppy mill
brokers that try to disguise themselves as responsible breeders.

Many states do not regulate puppy mill activities, nor the care of the animals that inhabit them. This includes our very
own state of Florida.  The largest populations of puppy mills are in America’s mid-west states. If your dog came from
Missouri, Idaho, Oklahoma, Indiana, etc….he/she more than likely suffered their first few months of life in a puppy
mill.  If the puppy mill dogs are lucky enough to live in a regulated state – the punishment for mistreatment of the
animals is often a slap on the hand. By sticking our heads in the sand, we Americans are literally allowing dogs to be
“bred to death” and to live horrible, unhealthy and unloved lives. We are allowing it because we cannot resist that
pretty doggy in the window.  We are allowing it because state governments turn a blind eye to puppy mill businesses.

Each time a puppy is bought by one of means listed above, another nail goes into the coffin of these poor suffering
puppy mill inhabitants.  The only way I can see putting an end to this atrocity is to affect the demand for these pets.
The supply should then diminish.  You can help the cause by spreading the word that dogs and pups should only be
bought by one of the following methods:

1.        Adoption through a Humane Society
2.        Adoption through a Breed Rescue Group
3.        Purchase from a Responsible Breeder

You know you have met a Responsible Breeder when they do the following:
1.        Encourage you to come pick up the dog, visit their premises and play
         with the litter
2.        Encourage you to come inspect one or both of the parents
3.        Provide, upon request, the pedigrees of the sire and the dam
4.        Promise to take the dog back if things don’t work out

Don’t be an unknowing victim and don’t let any more dogs suffer!  Visit the links below to learn how you can help……
